With the occasion of photographer Sergey Chilikov's first album release, Gallery.Photographer.ru in Moscow hosts a retrospective exhibition to his great work. Known as "the philosopher" in russian photographic circles, Chilikov started his carreer during the mid-70's as a member of the avant-garde collective The Fact. His images are rare documents of the seventies russian nightlife from a raw and incompatible aspect, highlighting secret details of that era.

During the recent Berlin Fashion Week, Tata Christiane presented its new collection for next winter with the dreamy title Magic Realism Chapter 2, with a colourful parade of dazzling patchworks and tricky prints in a pagan-bohemian style. Definitely one of the big hits of the recent showroom presentations in Berlin, with multiple global flashlights upon it. The German capital city showcased some of the best rising stars in fashion design and Tata Christiane is one of them.

Givenchy Haute Couture S/S 2012

One of Paris Haute Couture surprises so far has definitely been Givenchy. Ricardo Tisci drew inspiration from the classical twenties films Metropolis and russian Aelita creating the most spectacular floor-length gowns. The designer's dark style is obviously growing darker every season, with edgy detailing (for example the oversized noserings kept from his recent menswear collection),huge Art Deco earrings, spikes, zips and heavy embellishments on rich materials like scaled, almost sculptural crocodile leather, fine silk and etherial tulle. Definitely a big hit, i'm sure everyone's anticipating for his winter collection.

24 Hour Museum

Prada hosted one of the best events of the season for its 24 Hour Museum project at the historic Palais d’ Iena in Paris. The 24 Hour Museum, designed by artist Francesco Vezzoli with Rem Koolhaas's AMO, opened on the 24^th of January, for just 24 hours. The opening party was attended by several big names of fashion and arts, with Diane Kruger, Catherine Deneuve, Marianne Faithfull, Léa Seydoux, Roman Polanski, Anna Wintour and Emmanuelle Alt among others, with a DJ set by Kate Moss.

Cheyco Leidmann's new exciting exhibition is scheduled to be hosted at La Lune En Parachute contemporary art space in Epinal, France, from the 3rd February to the 17th March, 2012. Curated by Bob Jeudi, founder of the space, the exhibition titled Tantatrysk features 76 retrospective and unpublished works printed partially in large-scale formats. Cheyco Leidmann is famous for his nightmarish, apocalyptic images, full of sarcasm and black humour, juxtaposing dreams and fantasies with reality.

Prabal Gurung drew inspiration from the ruins of India for his Pre-Fall 2012 collection, with a fab presentation at the New Setai Hotel in fifth Avenue. Keeping a distance from ethnic cliches, the designer created the most fantastic, dazzling geometric prints on luxurious, yet wearable outfits based on versatile t-shirts, slim pants, flared coctail dresses, powerful bomber jackets and funky shorts. As for the colours, the all-time classic black and whites are complimented with emerald green and pale pink with sparkling embroidery. And of course, there is no great outfit without the right accessories, so Gurung decided to add some gorgeous oversized, cat-eye sunglasses and sleek stiletto heels.The collection look book is followed by the really tasteful video below, directed by Dan Martensen and featuring supermodels Alana Zimmmer, Hanne Gaby, Kate King and Ming Xie.

Nailed: History of Nail Culture

Chicago-based artist Dzine is famous for his kaleidoscopic large-scale paintings, overwhelming sculptures and strange vehicles, exploring the art, fashion and music subcultures. His recognizable style consists of jewel-encrusted creations and customizable designs, equal to high-end collections. The awarded artist's latest book is called Nailed and hosts some of the most unbelievable nail designs one can meet. Including his own wearable nail creations, along with contemporary designs from around the world shot by comissioned photographers, the 192-page hardcover book pays tribute to extreme body decoration and nail movement, with origins back to the Chinese Ming Dynasty, Egypt, Babylon and Rome, when nail decoration and ornaments were considered a social status symbol. Obviously inspired by his mother who was a nail artist, Dzine actually pays a tribute to all the people involved to this community who may not be artistically trained, however their passion for perfection and beautiful objects is really stricking. Dzine has already presented two more nail-related projects, Imperial Nail Salon at Salon 94 Freemans in New York featuring a salon chair with a part-time manicurist along with sculptures and designs and the New Museum's lobby window.

For three years Dr Paul Koudounaris, a specialist in Baroque culture and lector at major universities in Los Angeles, travelled the world to document various religious shrines decorated with human bones, crypts and remains from the sixteenth and seventienth centuries. He visited about seventy different glorious locations in four continents, most of them not open to public and never been photographed before. All these amazing images that offered various unusual experiences to the author, the attendance of an exorcism, the attack of a monk and his arrest by the Austrian police among them, are gathered in his latest book titled The Empire of Death, published by Thames & Hudson. In 224 pages, the richly illustrated edition uncovers a full essay on architecture masterpieces, impressive chandeliers made by human bones and jewel-encrusted mummies, during an era that death was not considered a taboo.

Trine is a graduate of the Instituto Carlo Secoli in Milan, the Middlessex University in London and the Royal College of Art, while her graduate collection was voted among the ones to watch by Vogue.com. A Palazzo Gallery in Brescia is currently hosting Make-Up, a new hot exhibition dealing with aesthetic beauty and its transformations. Twelve famous artists give their own interpretation to the meaning of beauty, with 2D and 3D works, experimenting with cosmetic cut-outs and allegorical abstractions on famous or unknown faces, finally resulting to an esoteric purification, beyond the mainstream standards.

The S/S 2012 collection of fashion designer and visual artist Sylvio Giardina is titled Nuptus and is inspired by clouds and their ever-changing forms. Playing with proportions, volumes and the sphericity of the feamle figure, Giardina gave his garments a fluid, almost liquid form with the use of polyethelene foam and Swarovski-crystal-embellished jersey.
The result is an outstanding game of sculpture and movement.

Tokyo Tattoo 1970

Martha Cooper's tattoo photographic project started while living in Tokyo with her anthropologist husband during the 70's. Including images with master tattoo artist Horibun, she captured rared moments of this incredible art during her stay at the Japanese capital city. However, the era's morals and taboos prevented her from exhibiting her achievent. So now, almost fourty years after, her beautiful shots are being featured in the amazing book titled Tokyo Tattoo 1970, while being exhibited for the first time at the Urban Folk Gallery in Brooklyn. The new forthcoming exhibition at the Contemporary Space of Les Arts Decoratifs museum is dedicated to avant-garde ceramic jewellery.
Unlike traditional jewellery, the traditional craft of the goldsmith, since the 1970s contemporary jewellery has become a field of experimentation at the frontiers of art, design and the artistic crafts. In this exhibition, eighteen French, Swiss, German, Finnish, Swedish and Taiwanese, artists are proposing a new and personal vision in their work. Although some pieces were conceived in reference to the history of jewellery, they can be made with the most diverse materials, using every possible assemblage process, in function of the techniques, symbols and the culture during a given period.

Boo Ritson is a multitalented artist and photographer from England. Inspired by American pop culture, Ritson recreates common stereotypes using thick emulsion paint to cover her models and objects and taking pictures of them while the paint is still wet. Her characters are quite familiar: the cop, the hooker, the beauty pageant, the cowboy, the air hostess; so common and yet so extravagant, after her intervention on her living mannequins. Except showing her work in great exhibitions worldwide, she has collaborated with various artists like indie-rock band The Maccabees, with super-brand Jil Sander for its F/W 2011collection shown in Garage magazine and various art collectors.

Thomas Wakeford and Raphael Castelmezzano are the designer duo behind English fashion label Thomas Wakeford. Critics already calle them as mavericks, a rather honorific expression in the fashion world, meaning that their work is really exceptional. Vogue Italia described their S/S 2012 collection as "a chaotic crash of exotic blood and psychedelic cyber travels", probably because it has a lot of different messages to send. The collection is inspired by 90's acid house football culture and Beetlejuice, so bright vivid colours like turqoise, orange and yellow blend gracefully with the bold geometric pieces and structured patterns, while the frayed hemlines of the garments incline a beautiful decay. Black, white and metallics equilibrate the colour palette and the whole collection gets more drama with the addition of the retro-feeling hats, the oversized bags and the chunky heels.
I think it's one of the more inspiring collections of the new season. London rules.

Anna-Sophie Berger is a fashion designer and photographer from Austria currently studying in the University of Applied Arts of Vienna. Although very young, Anna-Sophie has already produced several collections, counts many participations in major fashion exhibitions, has received two awards and has worked with big fashion industry names with Veronique Branquinho and Bernard Willhelm among them.
Her design style is based on geometry with 3-d patterns, using natural materials like casmere, silk and wool. Christian Straub draws inspiration from the late 60's and early 70's movies, featuring burnt colours, dramatic heroes and the latest amazing collection of German fashion label Ethel Vaughn.

The internationally acclaimed artist who is considered more than just a fashion photographer has captured through his lens some of the greatest supermodels like Kate Moss, Tatianna Patitz and Linda Evangelista, along with hundreds other great personas,marking 25 years of a remarkable carreer in the art of photography.

The exhibition is complimented by two more sections, one dedicated to the recently deceased photographer Frank Philippi with a special selection of his post - war Belgium images and one for leading New-York magazine Visionaire.

The new Adidas SLVR collection by Dirk Schoenberger is inspired by the Olympic game of fencing with silhouettes based on fine tailoring and sophisticated style, but without missing its ergonomic and sporty character. For both men and women the collection offers a great selection of uniforms, blousons, trenches, jackets, shorts, pants and dresses with assymetric detailing, all made by silk, denim, leather and nylon. Apart from black and white the collection also features eye-popping colours like bright yellow, lime green, red, saffron and electric blue. Smart, sleek and effortless.

Metamorphosis

Metamorphosis is a collaborative project between ethical knit brand The North Circular and reknown filmmaker Lorna Love. Inspired by a combination of Kafka's Metamorphosis, the experimental 60's films and William Boroughs, the film is fronted by supermodel and The North Circular co-owner Lily Cole and deals with the evolution of life through our current Dark Ages.

Marni's New Boutique in Beijing

Marni has just opened its biggest flagship store worldwide in Beijing. Located in the Sanlitun district of the Chinese capital city, the 550 square meter boutique is designed by architecture firm Sybarite and is considered a true masterpiece of contemporary design. Its style is based on strong geometry elements, in neutral tones with just one hint of red colour on the staircase, a tribute to chinese locality. The materials used are tech-inspired, with fibreglass, lacquer and steel ruling in the two - floor gigantic store. The new boutique features the current Marni women's, men's and children's collections along with special areas for lingerie, footwear and accessories.

Chiao Shen is an amazing hair stylist from Taiwan, based in Paris. His project for 2011 is called Armor and is inspired by a shield shaped tattoo he has. The project is presented with the following, really great video, complimenting the look book. Directed by Tracemaker.

Paris Photo, the biggest Art Photography Fair in the world celebrates its 15th anniversary at the Grand Palais venue in Paris. With a selection of 135 exhibitors from 23 countries, along with 55 new participants, this anniversary photo exhibition is expected to be one of the most important events of the season and a unique experience for the visitors. The fair features many parallel exhibitions, a tribute to African photography from Bamako to Cape Town with a large number of african artists and galleries and the exhibition Recent Acquisitions with material from the London Tate, the International Center of Photography from New York and the Musee de l' Elysee from Lausanne. Additionally, the exhibition titled Private Collection features master works from private collectors and finally, an exhibition devoted to a cult photography book Love on the Left Bank, edited by Ed van der Elsken in 1956 is accompanying the Paris Photobook Prize awarding. This photography panorama is completed with various events from interviews, round tables and events promising four days of spectacular art.

After his last amazing huge-knits collection Johan Ku returns with an even more gorgeous one for next summer. The new collection, considered as one of the best during the recent Tokyo Fashion Week is called The Two Faces and features brilliant light-knit, sculptural sweaters, dresses, skirts, jackets and leggings in white with a few touches of pale blue that glow in the dark. Personally, i describe it as Alien meets Godess and post it as one of my favourites.

Galerie Suvi Lehtinen in Berlin presents the first major solo exhibition of artist Iwajla Klinke titled Crowns and Gladiola. Klinke's medieval-style portraits are inspired by Yona Wallach's poem Jonathan in which the author imagines herself as a boy being slain by other children carrying gladiolas as swords. Her photographic work features images of young people and children in various roles, with elaborate costumes and the most bizarre styling we've seen lately, from dead birds and mice to meat and lit candles. Simply amazing.

Adrian Wu is one of the youngest fashion designers of the Canadian design scene and at the age of 21 he has already produced seven collections during his two-year carreer. His latest collection for next summer is called Creatures of the Protons and is inspired by the Quantum Physics and the double split theory. Amazing gowns with sculptural detailing are the basic elements of this beautiful collection, in white, pale blue, green and red styled with wired headpieces and sky-high heels. An excellent collection and a spectacular presentation under the tunes of Maurice Ravel.

The new Miu Miu Resort 2012 campaign is inspired by aristocratic and noble portraits, featuring Guinevere Van Seenus and shot by David Sims. The collection is quite delicate but strong with beautiful balloon skirt dresses made of lace or taffeta teamed with an extraordinary collection of bracelets, earrings, headpieces and chokers decorated with multicoloured crystals and pearl cabochons.Very interesting project.
